MrGreenJeans,
"We appear to be seeing some stabilization after four months of steady bookings growth, and this is in line with industry forecasts for 1999," said Stanley Myers, president of SEMI. "There have been no big surprises in either the chip or electronics markets to cause a sudden change in direction for equipment makers. We remain optimistic that a continued strong economy will lead to a more robust upturn by year's end."

Do you have any thoughts on the upside?

I have positions in Amat and I currently own 20 September 55 Call Options on Nvls which have appreciated quite nicely in the past few days. I also own the Fidelity Select Electronics Fund.

The outlook for the semiconductor equipment companies look strong to me for the next few quarters. I am willing to hold on to Amat for the long-term for as the sector goes Amat goes. Amat is extremely well positioned to profit from increased bookings. Nvls was undervalued at 53 and 54 in recent days probably because of their secondary offering in the market. I decided the best way to play it was using call options. According to First Boston Nvls has been having a strong 1st quarter and their backlog should be increasing. I believe they report 1st quarter results April 12th.

In an overvalued market here is one sector that seems to be turning up based on strong fundamentals after having been bloodied by the Asian crisis.
