I called Amazon service today to close my account. I was told that the account could not
be closed. When I insisted that I wanted the account closed I was told that my credit card
number could be disabled
but the account could not be closed. My interpretation of this event is that once an
account with Amazon is opened it remains open forever and will never be closed. If I am
correct that an account cannot be closed I strongly suspect that Amazon is misleading at
best when they quote the number of accounts existing at any point in time. We will never
see a period of time when the number of accounts have declined.
Comments please.

I have been saying this right along and the analysts keep touting the number of accounts.
