Is Novell going to become an internet leader?

Well ask yourself this, what are internet stocks? For the most part they are marketing concepts. Most internet stocks sell either advertising or products at a loss. But they all have a presence as leaders of one or another aspect of internet activity.

So which tech stocks have been able to make the transition to sell at least some of their current product into the internet market?

IBM --- no
DELL,HPW --- (maybe some servers but not really)
CSCO --- yes (infrastructure)
CPQ --- about to (infrastructure caching appliances)
MSFT --- yes but only by giving away the products
SUNW --- yes bigtime (UNIX web servers)
NOVL --- yes (infrastructure --- caching products)
yes (directory products --- the big move)

If Novell makes the transition to at least sell some proportion of its products into the internet, creates new product areas on the internet in the area of e-commerce and sell into the convergence of the IT/enterprise and the internet, it steals a march on all of the old line tech companies.

Novell could be the second tech company after Sunw to stake out some territory in the internet marketplace.
