OT. Hi Ducks - PM's

Your most valuable tool here on SI is the PM or Private Message. This is what we use to send super secret information to each other that no-one in the whole world knows about - except for 95% of the market :(

You're NOT set up to receive a PM. Go to the top menu bar and select 'Options'. A window will appear with a few choices for your SI configuration. Select 'Yes' for the "Do you want to receive private...." then click on the "Update Options" button. Now go back to one of your posts on the NIR thread and click on your alias name 'Ducks'. This will take you to you SI profile and list of your posts. What you should now see on the top horizontal menu bar is a new option (for you) "Send a Private Message". Once there folks will be able to send you PM's if they wish. Check my set up - or most others here on SI - we have all selected the PM option.

To send a PM to someone just click on the ‘target' alias name and the SI profile and list of posts for that alias will appear - as it does for all of us. The top menu bar helps you to navigate around. The top right hand option is "Send a Private Message". When selected another window will come up on a blue background. Practice by sending PM's to yourself.

Your "Inbox" (top left of regular public page) will give you the number of messages (public + PM's) that have been sent to you. Just click on this link and a list of your messages will appear. "Private Messages" have a blue/gray label - it'll be obvious when you see it.

Be careful sending PM's at first - you don't want to send PM's thinking they're PM's - but they're really public posts.

You should also make your way through here if you haven't been here before:

Have fun with those PM's

David :)
