Not that it is important, terribly, but I have an MM with Kodaly Emphasis and BM in Piano Performance, organ performance, and a BMus in Music Education. I serve on the BOD of a two arts organizations--one I'm proud of is a Fine Arts camp for children with terminal cancer.
I've played piano since I was 4 and played with my first orchestra in the 7th grade.
On the side I'm participating in a music and the brain research project and assisting our NBC affiliate with a documentary to come out in 2000.
While disability has taken me from the classroom, it has enabled me to widen my horizons into other areas of interest...including the stock market. For years, it has been a passion.
There is a connection between music and math--the Mozart effect isn't a farce.
Whenever the market has me confused or I'm just having trouble focusing, CNBC goes down--I keep the picture on, and then I put in some Vivaldi, Mozart, even some Bach.
There was an interesting study done in Leipzig Germany a several years back that showed that if you have music played at the tempo of 40 quarter notes per minute, the approximate speed of Handel's Largo, learning is enhance. Currently I'm working with one of the inner city schools in trying to duplicate that experience. Its great for children trying to learn math facts.
