Clinical research process varies widely. For detailed information, best source of official regulatory information would be:

fda.gov

However, the FDA has instituted a "fast-track" approval process for certain drugs and devices (based on need in the marketplace -- for example, many HIV treatments qualify for faster approval process). I do not know if SYBD's patented products will qualify.

My current enthusiasm stems from the fact that the products are finally patented (the glucose biosensor patent nearly in the bag) and ready for the clinical research stage. If the products show promise during the beginning stages of the clinical research phase and catch the attention of a major biotech manufacturer, SYBD could end up getting the necessary funding for the entire clinical research process, which could greatly increase their chance of building a market for the products by the time of approval.

For example, CLTR has been developing its breakthrough treatment for lymphoma for about 10 years now (which has been very costly). Because of the promise of the product, however, it has had no problem receiving government and private funding for the clinical trials.

I hope this helps. I have some experience in the clinical research field, but am certainly no expert.
