John, right now, they are planning to have either liquid hydrogen or pressurized hydrogen and unless the containers are designed to withstand any type of mechanical collision without rupture, it is a dangerous fuel, more dangerous than gasoline. Hydrogen per se, is said not be be worry some since even if it somehow leaks out, it is lighter than air and should not reach the explosive mixture ratio in open environments. In enclosed environments (like a leak into a closed or almost closed car), lighting up a cigarette could be quite a show. I presume the designers of these systems have taken all these into considerations, but I would rather they store hydrogen as metal hydrides which do not suffer from any of these problems.
