Interesting post. The reason I think TLABS will always be adifficult deal is they've been badly burned by this deal once already, really twice with the renegotiation.

I think CSCO (which I am long in) would do well to make this deal. FWIW I do not hold CIEN right now but am looking to buy below 20 and think it will continue to drift down espec. ifthe mkt starts to falter.

WAG: any acceptable merger would have to be at 30-35 or above. If CIEN thinks it's worth 40-45, then they may not be willing to merge. But the value of going to CSCO (or TLAB) is they'd be trading into a much stronger stock. Not sure NT fits that category, and LU, too much bad blood for a deal there. Don't know about any others.
