Internet Runway provides secure Internet access over a single TCP/IP address for the new Novell IntranetWare for Small Business
SphereLink(TM) Communications Corp. Monday announced its new version of Internet Runway(TM) that allows users of the new Novell(R) IntranetWare(R) for Small Business, known as Server Plus(R), to simultaneously access the Internet through a Server Plus(R) server. Internet Runway provides secured, high performance Internet and Intranet access to all Server Plus(R) clients through a single IP address. Internet Runway is an inexpensive solution for small and medium-sized businesses that need access to the Internet. Similar to Server Plus(R), the Internet Runway server software is licensed based on the number of concurrent users. Internet Runway starts at $397 for a 5 User license and comes bundled with a full version of Server Plus(R). "Internet Runway solves the need for access to the Internet without having to load an expensive and inefficient TCP/IP stack on every Server Plus(R) client within a workgroup or company LAN environment. "This approach significantly lowers the cost to access the Internet, provides Firewall security and reduces administrative and management costs," said Michael Graham, SphereLink's Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "This product connects IPX-based Server Plus(R) networks through Novell's NetWare Connect(R) to the Internet so that businesses can efficiently disseminate and gather information from sources all over the world." NetWare Connect(R) is included with Novell's Server Plus(R). Internet Runway transparently integrates TCP/IP and IPX/SPX and provides Server Plus(R) clients the ability to connect to the Internet from their standard Winsock applications such as Netscape Navigator, Telnet, and FTP. Once the connection is established between the client and Internet Runway gateway, the client sends requests over the SPX channel and the gateway translates the requests to IP and in turn communicates with a host on the Internet. The gateway handles requests simultaneously from multiple clients and multiplexes the requests among the different hosts that the clients are connected to. This fully scaleable gateway maintains the connection information for each client and uses limited server resources to manage the connections. Internet Runway is a comprehensive, cost effective alternative to current methods of providing Internet access to clients on Server Plus(R) networks. It also eliminates the need for dual protocol stacks on each workstation. This feature also provides an extremely effective security firewall that is essential for protecting valuable corporate information assets. Some additional benefits businesses will gain from using Internet Runway include elimination of the additional management and memory overhead associated with individual IP addresses for network clients, and dramatically reduces costs for individual IP addresses for each client. "For networks of 25 users or less, the ROI (Return on Investment) is less than 3 months," Graham said.
