So what does this mean? Nothing. If they can build the .21um then they have the toolset to build the .18um. All they need is a design and a process -- THAT IS ALL. With the problems they would have with the critical areas on the .21 I would imagine it would be expediential with the .18um. It would mean they have better nitride cells and contacts than everyone; at .18 but not at .21um and the bad yields they have had.

Again; it is not how many wafers you start, nor is how good your probe yield is IT IS HOW MANY PARTS MAKE IT THROUGH TEST AND OUT THE DOOR!
If 15% of your line is.18um parts what is their FINAL functional test yields? Also what is the fully loaded cost of those parts. If it comes out to $10.00 per part you are losing money -- period.

So stating they have completed the "updates" to run the .18 means to me they have now just completed the "updates" to run the .21um -- one in the same.

what Do you think Earlie? Make sense?
