For me, art isn't about knowing, it's about feeling. Seems I only "get" art when I surrender to a piece and begin to feel it, rather than cogitate about it (don't you find this so with music?). Monet is easy to surrender to--he had a warm soul, while Vince's was closer to boiling.

Monet's "Waterlilies" at MOMA are really soothing, and BIG! I never dreamed they were such large canvases.

I just started "getting" some of Picasso's work: the ones with contorted faces with eyes that look at you from the side of the subject's face. I can now see people like that. It really was genius to be able to capture the fractured, multi-dimensional presence we have--looking at one another even when our heads are turned away.
