I have one of the Waterlilies prints over the fireplace in the bedroom. I was upset when I saw the real thing and realized how different the colors can be in reproductions.
Music is much easier for me to surrender to, but I trust myself more there. Maybe I'm too self-conscious in art-- like what if I say I like this and "they" say-that's garbage. I'd feel so dumb.
Actulaly-we may be talking about two levels of appreciation- the technical and the emotional?
_OK-- Music-- Ravel's Bolero is I think not a particularly great work- it's fun- but it's an exercise in instrumental color, an experiment, not technically brilliant in any way, yet people respond to it and love it-especially untrained ears who love its crescendo and its predictability. It's a classic. Is art like that too?
