Instead, all you do is give unrelated data,
Ken, you are using conjecture and your own fear of the unknown to justify your catasrophic predictions. Face it buddy, there is NO DATA THAT CAN BE FULLY TRUSTED. The lawyers won't let it be released.
Who knows... Y2K may prove to be the end of the world. But neither you nor I will be able to prove it until it happens.
I'm honest enough to tell you I don't know what is going to happen. But you think you see the end of the world approaching. All you seem to be able to do is talk about all the terrible things your dark fertile imagination can dredge up.
Get a grip, Ken... and be confident enough in your abilities, and those of your fellow man/woman, that we can all work together to overcome any problems. Stop looking at it as the end of the world and start looking at as a potential challenge that has to be met and overcome on a personal, national, and international.
Be part of the solution, and if you can't at least be that, at least don't become an additional problem that society has to handle.
Ken.... as for hard data, name for me ONE MAJOR system that is GUARANTEED to fail due to Y2K, that the hard documented EVIDENCE detailing the repercussions of the predicted failure.
There's a lot of speculation out there about what's gonna happen, Ken. There's a lot of disbelief by the lay public that authorities are being forthright with disclosure on Y2K vulnerabilties.
But I have more concern about people like yourself who seem to be think that life will come suddenly to an end because some IT systems abend, or spit out corrupt data. You're gonna have to live on Ken, massive disruptions or not, so face it.
And you'd better be mentally prepared for either event or your feel mighty foolish should either extreme scenario take place (disruption vs non-event, that is.).
The only scenarios that have me really concerned are the embedded systems issues. They seem difficult to identify and test. Replacing them can be difficult since many are custom made with long lead times for manufacture. That concerns me.
But then again, what can I personally do about it?? And what do I gain by constantly crying "the sky is falling" until it actually is.
"we see our economy dragged back to a 1970's level"
I have really got to know how you arrived at this one! Please give me your reasoning behind your selection of that period!
You would prefer the '40s??... or maybe something from Mad Maxx?
Think of any period where society was not nearly as dependent on computers as they are now and insert the date of your choosing.
Choose a country where they have hardly an IT infrastructure to speak of. Will they now become the rulers of the globe, while the US and industrialized nations are humbled???
