You've Got Music!

Here's an even more terrifying scenario for the major record labels to consider. What if AOL (AOL) president and COO Bob Pittman decides that AOL should be the ultimate online distribution mechanism for recording artists? With instant access to AOL/Compuserve's more than 17 million Internet users, don't think Pittman (creator and CEO of MTV Networks and one-time CEO and president of Time Warner Enterprises) hasn't thought of it.

The writing is on the wall. If the Big Five labels don't move fast, recording artists like Puff Daddy may one day chose to sign with "AOL Records" (a hypothetical name/entity).

Taking this scenario a step further -- what if AOL offered members the option to become monthly subscribers to "AOL Records'" library of exclusive downloadable music? How would you like to have the brand new Puff Daddy album delivered directly to your email box the day it is released?

"You've got music!"

It could happen -- just wait.
