Thanks for your ever reasonable (and well-researched) point of view, Josef.

Here's a different topic for discussion, actually related to GNET:

Allen has talked of GNET as his portal to the Internet for his cable holdings. I have @Home/TCI/ATT as my cable Internet provider. Love the service. It's very fast. However, the front page/interface is a dog. They want you to start every session with the @Home page and that's a big part of their revenue model, but I simply bypass it and use Go2Net or Hotmail as my first page. I haven't looked at any @Home pages (or contributed to their revenues by seeing ads or buying products other than the Internet service) for a couple of months.

With the wealth of options out there (out here) on the Internet, and how easy it is to bypass the cable company's so-called portal, how valuable will these portals be? What will be the best ways to ensure that people actually use these portals, instead of just go to what they have used before getting the cable modem?

I think GNET has great quality, so maybe it won't be a huge factor for them, but I think it's worth discussing what are the key ways to keep the eyeballs from wandering. (As mine have away from @Home.)
