I was in Victoria, Australia during this gas crisis and your post exaggerates the actual effect greatly. People took cold showers (those who had gas heated water--those with electric were fine), used their microwaves and electric frying pans, and life went on absolutely normally, although people were extremely "annoyed.", particularly because the gas company knew it had problems previously. And frankly, every individual turned off gas supplies on their own, if they lived in a house. Fines were threatened, but not levied as far as I know. There was no big military or police incursion.

This post was stupid. It's a ridiculous exaggeration.
