Commercial Chinese interests have no choice but to listen to Beijing. In the US you can sue the government. You can regularly observe US companies going against the government eg US oil companies and Teheran.

If Chinese diplomats or otherwise made claims of US commercial links to its government they would most likely be ignored as the Chinese run a huge trade surplus with the US which will not reverse any time soon. With the impending devaluation of the RMB their advantage is likely to grow. US companies spend most of their time trying to get exemptions so they can export dual use materials( computers,encrption algorithms, satellite technology etc ) overseas.
There is no such thing as free trade, even in the US, as evidenced by protectionist bills most recently on steel imports,and ongoing issues with textiles,Canadian timber etc. If the US is to take protectionist measures ( which they should not ) it can at least be done in the name of national security.

The Chinese may or may not have aggressive ( eg Spratly Islands, control of the four straits governing all Asian trade, etc) motives. Those cannot be guessed. It would be wise for the US to base its
policy on capabilities and not intentions.

Hutchison is absolutely a well respected organisation along with Hopewell,Changhong and others. Unfortunately those who control them may not have a choice when crunch time comes.
