On the subject of religion: I just got this email from my sister in law (she and my husband's brother are atheists,) telling me the lastest about Jameson, her son who turned five this month:

Jameson learned to read this week. It was as sudden as turning on a light. One day he didn't get it and the next day he did. It's so fun. He also has a new religion. He says "I believe in tree spirits, angels, and science." He switches religions frequently. Last week we were in a Thai restaurant that had a beautiful five foot tall sculpture of Buddha. On our way out Jameson said, "That sculpture is so beautiful I've decided to be a Buddhist." When we got home I got out kids' books on Buddhism and read him some Buddhist folktales and told him about the eight-fold path etc. He found it too complicated and decided to revert to his original triune. Most of the kids at his current school are Christian and one day he came home and said "Mom, Katy says we are going to be cast out into the outer darkness." He didn't sound overly concerned, more amused.
