Interesting Scenario!

Carry your scenario out a little and look back in time about 5 years
ago and you had this company from the Bay state with multiple product
lines. In comes a new CEO and brings in the best sales and marketing
types around and turns a company that was almost underwater under the
previous management (who founded the company) around. The target was
IBM and the other leaders in the market. The strategy was very very
simple, WIN at any expense (Even if you have to give equipment away)
to gain market share. Launch a major PR and marketing effort which
included some intial WSJ advertisements to propel the marketing tasks.

Take marginal products and spruce them up with lots sex appeal and
madison avenue spin, motivate the sales and maketing teams and go
after OEMS, new customers, take customers from the leaders (IBM, STK,
DEC, HP, SUN, Etc.) and keep your name in front of everyone (Brand
appeal). Add some value add capability that furthers your brand
appeal and now you got some mometum.

So to answer,

Take an MTIC, add the right leader(s), add a market/PR punch and
some intial funding to back it for a few quarters and look out!!!

The rest of course is history so there is always a chance;)
