I'll bet you could learn. There are classes at most YMCAs, and dive shops. Getting certified is pretty simple, if you really like the idea.

Once you are certified, it's a simple step to go diving anywhere you want to. My only suggestion would be to have a buddy with you, i.e. spouse, friend, etc. if you dive outside the U.S., and not to trust a buddy from the local dive shop where you are on vacation.

It's kinda like riding a motorcycle or jumping out of an airplane. You'll know right away if you like it or not. If you do, you will really enjoy it. It's kinda like an EVA on the spacecraft, only with huge deadly fish.
