Steven, once again I am reminded forcibly of how very much I like you.

Logic tells me that there are millions of people in the world, probably thousands within a few miles of my doorstep, who are more deserving of my help. But if we do not do this nobody will, and nobody should die like that.

The thing is, you have not met the millions of people who may be more deserving. You have met this man and you are responding to your acquaintance of him as an individual, even an individual that you dislike.

I have always been bemused by those who find it easy to care about the "bleeding crowd" but don't reach a helping hand to an individual in need if the person is unattractive. Thank you for being the kind of person who feels he does have to deal with the need he sees.
