Sounds like your father was a principled man. Not too many people today have the responsibility to carry their own lives without sticking out their hand demanding someone else take care of them. My grandfather was the same way. The man had 12 kids, was quite literally a dirt farmer, and he never asked anyone for a handout. You should be proud of your father, it sounds like he was a good man.
