A 17 February 1997 Reuters article "Empiric Antibiotics Most Cost-Effective For Dyspepsia, H. Pylori" lends credence to the view that the market for Quidel's H.pylori test is much larger than just testing people with ulcers.

In the article it's said that Doctors recommend testing dyspepsia patients for H.pylori (using a test like Quidel's) and treating those who are positive. I remember reading somewhere that about five percent of doctor visits are for dyspepsia. If five percent of all patients who visit the doctor are eventually tested for H.pylori, Quidel's sure to sell one big bunch of tests.
