>>They stopped selling guns and all firearms on EBAY, and knives too I think some time ago, about time.!!<<
I am not sure that all of their problems are behind them. I also believe that if the window that allowed these illegal items to be sold has not been closed, then Ebay cannot escape being culpable for what they allow for sale on their site. I seem to recall that Ebay has made steps to tighten this up. That said, my following comments still apply to Ebay and any other customer to customer style of business on the web.
Given a tragic event with something obtained through an Ebay site, I am confident that a U.S. court would not accept the fact that only a very small percent of the items that they make a profit on are illegal. No I am not a lawyer (like our old friend Kris - LOL) but I think I am on a pretty firm foundation here. The ramifications of a lawsuit, a settlement, negative public reaction, and the resultant compliance hoops that they would have to jump through would be significant in my opinion.
Because Ebay is an "open market" customer to customer style of auction - and if they haven't already done so - then they had better move to put in some pretty good checks and balances to ensure that what is sold it above board and legal. Why should Internet Ebusiness be any different from the bricks and mortar world.
Now this is another reason why Bid.Com should do well for the long term. They offer merchandise that they have screened, the manufacturers ship, guarantee, and stand by their products. The last time I checked, I wasn't able to find an Uzui to put a bid in for (LOL).
I see Bid.Com building for the future and establishing relationships with dependable suppliers. This stability will establish their credibility with large and small investors interested in a long term and solid business model.
Rapid and uncontrolled growth has killed many very exciting companies who had great potential. Now I want to be clear here that I am not saying that Ebay's problems (or headaches) will kill their model. Rather, I am saying that these problems have to be addressed, and cannot be minimized or dismissed.
