Attended the Association of Naval Aviation (ANA) national conference in DC Thurs and Fri. When JSF was briefed, the Boeing and Lockheed Martin reps each made a presentation. The Boeing rep stated that their JSF design incorporated a virtual 360 degree situational awareness system. In other words, you could look through the canopy normally but you could also "look through" the bottom of the airplane and in doing so "see through the jet" with actual vision, at that point, being replaced with the "virtual view" provided from the aircraft's sensors. I don't know how they could mechanize that without a VRD or visor display type system. He didn't mention MVIS but it seems logical that something like VRD is what would be needed to mechanize the concept. CAP
