Ish, I strongly recommend that if you go on a vacation where there is diving, to go through the resort dive program. This is a half day class and then highly supervised open water dives. This way you get to see if you like diving without the full commitment. I would stick with reputable firms in mainstream resort towns (Caymens and Hawaii are great...avoid Jamaica resort dives IMO). I'm enough of a diving nut that I will actually do shore dives through the California surf. JXM
