Speaking about volatility, Gary Smith the tech analysis guy at thestreet.com offers the "TC2000" criteria below for Sideways markets. Can someone translate this into quote plus terms? Please.
Smith:
dividend yield less than 0.5% (don't want to short high dividend stocks)
price greater than $20
volatility greater than 30 and less than 70 (cuts out nonmovers and highfliers)
90-day average volume greater than 1,000,000 shares (easy in and out) This will provide a list of 75 to 100 stocks.
Set the view at six to nine months, and add Bollinger bands set at 20/20 and a 20-day moving average. Bollinger bands are based on recent price movement and help visualize a trading range. The 20-day MA splits the bands.
