I agree with virtually all of the points you made in particular the relationship(s) of Western Intelligence agencies and their domestically headquartered multinational companies. I do believe that all countries are behaving ( and if they are not they should be )reciprocally. Accordingly the Japanese will not permit themselves to be dependent on rice from the US, the Israelis will not rely on even the US for military technology going so far as to routinely spy on them, etc. So the game is played both ways ( and should be as each sovreign power acts in its own national interest.)

Currently there is an obvious conflict between US interests in the Far East ( which is to not allow anyone to achieve threatening
capabilities to any one country, particularly the Chinese and North Koreans) and Chinese interests ( which is to finlandize over time the entire region.)Absent US capability ( which is quite different from saying they will use it-in fact over time given the demographics of the US they will over time have largely defensive capabilities) to project its power into the four straits in the region US credibility will deteriorate faster than with that capability. ( US credibility will erode in any case, it is merely a matter of timing.)

So, ultimately my point is that both countries are working in their own best interests as they perceive them. To deny that the US has a point vis-a-vis Hutchison would be equivalent to deny the Chinese have a point vis-a-vis Pepsi Cola or Coca-Cola.
