Some very good posts about the potential acquirors:

I agree that someday CIEN will be acquired However, CIEN's willingness to make these deals means that it won't happen immediately.

TLAB will never make another offer, as it almost destroyed the share price and enraged the shareholder base. It is offering its own optical line now.

I agree that CSCO would be the best fit ultimately, but I think that for CSCO to change their mind, CIEN's margins would have to rise dramatically (which they could if Lightera Omnia products work out). CSCO stated in their most recent CC that DWDM has become a commodity.

CIEN has to make the acquisition work like ASND did in 1997 with Cascade, to make itself very marketable.

I was thinking (hoping?)that one of those Old world European telecom guys would buy CIEN but on the CC for Lightera, CIEN specifically mentioned that the fact that Lightera, Ciena and Omnia are free from legacy network concerns (unlike TLAB, European guys) that this was a perfect fit.

I hope that the 2 purchases work but it is going to be very difficult since CIEN has very powerful competitors and no "secret sauce" to get its customers (unlike an IBM or CSCO). In fact, it is just like ASND in that it will need a better product which gets to market fast.
