Microsoft Co-Founder Allen Could Control Go2Net, WSJ Says

Phoenix, March 22 (Bloomberg) -- Microsoft Corp. co- founder Paul Allen will gain control of Go2Net Inc.'s board given shareholder approval of a transaction by which he plans to invest as much as $320 million in the Seattle-based Internet-software developer and Web-site operator, the Wall Street Journal reported. Allen's company, Vulcan Ventures Inc., will hold at least 34 percent of Go2Net's stock if approved, according to documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission Friday. Allen has another offer outstanding that would increase his stake in Go2Net to 55 percent through a $323.7 million tender offer, the paper said.

Go2Net's shares rose 11 percent the day after Vulcan Ventures said it would invest as much as $750 million in the company and link it with Allen's vast cable-television holdings.
