The Chinese know they have nothing to gain by challenging the US directly outside of SE Asia, and they have no intention of doing so at this time.

Their real goal is to make the cost and risk of a US intervention in SE Asia (to defend Taiwan for example) unacceptable to the US public and politicians, and to establish themselves as the only superpower in this part of the world within 10-15 years.

Outside of SE Asia, they have acted to destabilize the US by supporting Pakistan, and Irak, and will use their position at the UN to turn the tables on America each and every time they can.

Taiwan will soon become their Falklands, in order to keep the masses behind them in these times of instability and mounting economic turmoil on the mainland.
