BOTTOMLINE TECHNOLOGIES OFFERS EXPANDED ELECTRONIC COMMERCE SOLUTIONS WITH ACQUISITION OF CERTISOFT SOLUTIONS, INC.

MCI and AT&T partnerships provide ready-made transmission technology

PORTSMOUTH, NH -- (April 15, 1996) -- Bottomline Technologies, Inc., the payment technology company, based in Portsmouth, NH, has agreed to acquire Englewood, CO-based financial electronic data interchange (FEDI) software provider CertiSoft Solutions, Inc. (CSI). The acquisition allows Bottomline to offer proven electronic commerce technologies to corporate, public and banking customers.

CSI markets a flexible, Windows™-based automated clearing house (ACH) origination and receiving system ideal for any organization. In partnership with AT&T and MCI, CSI's products allow companies to create electronic payments without changes to their application software. CSI also markets banking software which provides ACH origination, receipt and FEDI addenda translation.

"CertiSoft completes the electronic commerce portion of Bottomline's suite of payment technology offerings. Their Financial EDI solutions enhance our total disbursement package," said Bottomline President and co-founder, Dan McGurl. "CertiSoft is a recognized leader in Windows-based electronic payment software."

Working with an organization's existing payment applications, Bottomline's Enterprise Payment Architecture (EPA) coordinates and controls all payments. Preserving the investment in existing payment processing software, the EPA manages all payments to optimize the organization's control and use of funds.

"Bottomline can now offer any organization the ability to streamline and customize payments by utilizing any disbursement technology on a payment by payment basis," said CertiSoft President Steve Tierney.

Bottomline Technologies, Inc., a six-year-old, privately-held company, provides software and services for improving payment technology across the enterprise. Bottomline's line of product offerings feature the Laser Check™ family of check writing software and Positive PayLink™ solutions, the most effective suite of anti-check fraud systems. Bottomline markets worldwide and counts Marathon Oil, Bank of New York, Manpower and Wells Fargo among their customer base of more than 2000 organizations. Bottomline Technologies, Inc. was ranked #52 on Inc. Magazine's 1995 list of America's fastest growing privately-held companies.
