That is such utter nonsense. There is only one tlc transaction involving an R&D write off that's even remotely material in FY 1998 and it's mindscape.

Broderbund involved no R&D charge and creative wonders was minor.

Moreover, mindscape was already looked at by the SEC once. (Now it is possible they can change their mind.)

Do the math. The Mindscape deal had a $100 million R&D charge. So the sec says you can't write it all off at once. Fine, let's say it's extreme and the sec says that $75 million has to be amortized.

Ok amortize $75 million over 7 to 10 years. Apply it to the combined income statement....

it will have no material impact on earnings.
