Gary,

So what is the explanation for this ?

During the first two months of the year, Intel rapidly accelerated
their Celeron price cuts and MHz ramp. This caused AMD's margins to
drop precipitously. Intel has so far been able to create a large
deltaPrice/deltaPerformance price slope above 400 MHz.

If AMD can move their product line to within one or two percent of
Intel's performance, they will be able to take advantage of the steep
pricing slope.
