Ross Systems Sees Windows NT as Major Operating System for ERP; Ross Announces ERP Seminar Series Featuring Microsoft Windows DNA for Manufacturing

ATLANTA, March 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Ross Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: ROSS), the leading provider of ERP systems to the mid-tier process manufacturing market, continues to see Windows NT as a major operating system for ERP. Since Ross sells largely to the mid-range ERP market, its Windows NT business has increased steadily as the market acceptance and proliferation of Windows NT has increased. After Ross released a Windows NT solution in June of 1997, the Windows NT version of Renaissance CS immediately represented 40% of new license fee sales. Since then, the Windows NT version has consistently represented 70% of new unit sales during the last fiscal year, with more than 150 Windows NT ERP customers added over this timeframe and 25 added last quarter. In addition, Ross' recent addition of support for SQL Server 7.0 greatly enhances the Ross Windows NT offering due to the integration of SQL Server with Windows NT Server and BackOffice.

"The Windows NT platform is ideal for client-server solutions like ours," said Don Campbell, Ross' vice president of worldwide marketing. "Since Ross Systems sells largely to the mid-tier ERP market, our Windows NT business has increased steadily as the market acceptance and proliferation of Windows NT has increased. Our continued support for Microsoft standards and platforms such as SQL Server 7.0 enhances our fit for those customers who use our Windows NT-based system and desire an end-to-end Microsoft environment. We are excited about working with Microsoft to share our technological vision and strategy with process manufacturing organizations in our upcoming seminar series."

Ross Systems today announced a regional seminar series to be held with Microsoft Corporation. The seminar series, which will be kicked off in the second quarter, will focus on the critical components required in a process ERP implementation for process manufacturers. The three critical components to be discussed include: "best practices" for a successful systems implementation; the core IT technologies and infrastructure upon which to build business systems; and the critical selection criteria for an ERP solution that fits the specific needs of recipe-, formula-, or specification- based manufacturers.

Microsoft Corporation will present the Windows Distributed interNet Applications architecture (DNA) at the seminar. Recently launched for manufacturing, the collaborative DNA for manufacturing initiative produces a technical architecture, which will reduce costs, and simplify the process of deploying, integrating and managing systems for manufacturing enterprises. As part of the DNA presentation, Microsoft will also discuss Microsoft SQL Server 7.0, the latest edition of its enterprise relational database.

"To perform a thorough evaluation and make an educated ERP selection, customers need information regarding many topics including platforms and applications," said Marcus Schmidt, industry marketing manager for manufacturing at Microsoft Corporation. "A combined seminar series from Microsoft Corporation and Ross Systems will provide the information customers need to make a very critical ERP decision. For example, we will show how Windows DNA for Manufacturing provides organizations with a seamless integrated network between plant operations and back-office ERP systems, eliminating frustrating IT headaches and allowing managers to focus on value- added business solutions instead."

The first three seminars will be held in Atlanta, Tampa Bay, and Birmingham beginning in April. For detailed information on the seminar series, clients may call 1-877-ROSSINC to register. More information is also available on www.rossinc.com .
