Geac Continues to Penetrate Public Sector Market With Region of Niagara Agreement
Geac's SmartStream Financials Improve Business Efficiencies, Helping Agency Better Service Region
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 22, 1999--Continuing to build on its strength in the public sector market, particularly in the government arena, Geac SmartEnterprise Solutions announced today that the Region of Niagara has selected its SmartStream Financials to streamline the organization's financial activity and facilitate timely access to information across departments. The Region of Niagara, a Canadian local government entity composed of several departments including public health, community services, police and public works, until now, relied on a number of disparate systems to manage its financial operations. With SmartStream Financials, the organization will quicken administrative processes, enabling the different departments to focus on serving the needs of the community.

''Our financial systems were not very flexible to our organizational and reporting changes. A few of our processes were not automated and we were spending too much time trying to access the data in our system,'' said Pat Crow, assistant director for corporate services department at Region of Niagara. ''Geac's SmartStream Financials will help our departments cut through the paperwork and rapidly access the necessary information, resulting in better service to the Niagara region.''

When it fully implements the complete SmartStream Financials suite, including General Ledger, Allocations, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and Budget applications, Region of Niagara's employees will spend less time inputting data and more time using it. For instance, when working on a budget, employees will be able to input figures directly into the application, manipulate the data and print the final project in the desired report format. When purchasing items for a particular department, users will have access to previous purchasing records and data from other departments that may affect the purchasing decision. In addition, Region of Niagara will now be able to more efficiently manage the responsibilities downloaded to municipalities from the provincial government.

''After evaluating solutions from other vendors such as PeopleSoft, SAP, Oracle and J.D. Edwards, it was clear that Geac SmartStream Financials was the right choice for us,'' said Bob Diakow, corporate information systems officer at Region of Niagara. ''Geac offers the best overall solution that's easy to use and flexible to our changing needs. Best of all, Geac took the time and the effort to show us the application's capabilities, listened to us and did everything they could to accommodate our needs. They showed us superior customer service.''

''Region of Niagara is another great example of Geac's strength in the public sector arena,'' stated Colleen Niven, vice president of worldwide marketing for Geac SmartEnterprise Solutions. ''With three decades of experience and more than 330 customers in the public sector, Geac is well positioned to serve the unique needs of service-oriented organizations like the Region of Niagara.''
