Green Bay, Newfoundland Orion Gold Zone Drilling Commences

Glenn G. Schevchenko, President of Major General Resources Ltd., reports that Diamond drilling commenced February 16, 1997 to further test the deeper extensions of the Orion Gold Zone at Springdale, Newfoundland. At this time, two holes totalling close to 1000 metres are planned to test the eastern portion of the Discovery Zone to depths of 300-350 metres. These holes are targeted at positions down plunge from where previous drilling encountered gold values up to 9.93
g/T Au over 5.2 metres and 9.45 g/T Au over 3.5 metres. These intercepts are contained within a wide, intensely altered gold enriched envelope which grades from 1.2 g/T Au to 2.5 g/T Au over
widths of 10 to 30 metres.

The position of the 1997 holes is below a structural flexure which constricted the gold zone between the 200 metre and 250 metre levels. Drilling below this flexure in other portions of the Orion Zone has encountered significant gold mineralization (News Release, December 18, 1996 and January 8, 1997).
