SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 1997--Alpha Pro Tech
Ltd. (OTC:APTD) announced today new sales activity from Chicopee
Inc., the exclusive marketing and distribution channel for Chix(R)
Aqua Trak Black(TM), Alpha Pro Tech's anti-slip disposable shoe
covers for the food service industry.
Chicopee Inc. is a unit of PGI Nonwovens (NYSE:PGH).
Chicopee has completed a three month testing evaluation process
of Chix(R) Aqua Trak Black(TM) shoe covers with Hardee's(R) Food
Systems Inc. Hardee's, in an effort to address slip and fall issues
within their operating units, has decided to utilize the shoe covers
as a part of their safety program. Hardee's currently operates
3,500 restaurants.
Chix(R) Aqua Trak Black(TM) is disposable anti-slip shoe
protection that is made from Alpha Pro Tech's proprietary
technology. The Aqua Trak Black(TM) skid/fluid resistant shoe cover
itself, and the method for making it, are protected by United States
Patent No. 5,048,126. This means that no one can make, use, sell,
or offer to sell this product in the United States without Alpha Pro
Tech's permission.
Alpha Pro Tech has additional patents pending that, when issued,
will provide Alpha Pro Tech with additional patent protection. Aqua
Trak Black(TM) is a trademark pending of Alpha Pro Tech, and Chix(R)
is a trademark of Chicopee.
Dan Turman, safety consultant for Hardee's(R) Food Systems Inc.,
stated: "During the testing period the employees had no slips or
falls while they were using Chix(R) Aqua Trak Black(TM) shoe covers,
and the employees' reaction to the product was outstanding. The
employees also appreciated the added benefit of their shoes
remaining clean while wearing the product."
Chicopee Inc. representative Viktors Trence stated: "Similar
tests in process within other food service operations are trending
toward the same results. Initial supply to Hardee's corporate
locations will be approximately 250,000 units."
