Z,

I'm sorry Z!

ESD stands for Electro-Static-Discharge.

It's the build up of voltage and the resulting zap analogous to when you walk across a rug on a dry day and then touch a door knob.

The fine line geometry and semiconductor materials used in GMR heads (wafers) is very sensitive to ESD potentials as low as 3 to 6 volts. Consequently EXTREME care is needed in the process of handling the little buggers.

Regards,
LT
