4TNiner: That would depend on how widely disseminated the news is. If only insiders and a few "in the know" people were aware of something negative, the price would not necessarily go below $1 until the general investing public became aware.

Just look at the bewilderment on this thread to see how much people can be in the dark until it's too late. Judging by today's action, this does not appear to be a shakeout. The stock fell and couldn't find a bottom, it just kept falling. There was no buying interest.
