If the K7 will compete against Compaq's Alpha designs, and possibly sell for less, why wouldn't Compaq protect their patents? I recall from one of my business classes that a company has to actively protect its trademarks or face a possible loss of the trademark. This is why you often hear about big companies "bullying" smaller ones by sending them letters demanding them to stop abusing a trademark. If the "bully" didn't send the letter, and ignored the infringement, then the smaller company has a better legal case at stealing the trademark. Does anyone know if this applies to patents as well? If Compaq doesn't object to AMD's patent violations, will this imply that Compaq doesn't care, and thus allow others to use the technology covered by the patent? Adam
