What are the religious sides? >> Yep, we will be bombing the Christians. The Serbs have their own special brand of Orthodox Christianity. They even have something like a Pope (non-Catholic). This is not where my objection is seated. I am a Muslim and am sick of the attrocities perpetrated by the Serbs. My issue has to do with unprincipled intervention in civil conflicts that have no clearly defined political goal. We learned a lot from Viet Nam in this regard. This region has problems of Viet Nam multiplied many times and more complicated. The best we can hope for is to police the violence with ground forces for a couple of years. After that, the media withdraws, we are still their the underlying conflicts remain. What do we do. Well, clinton hasn't given us an answer. Ask him what the sanctions have accomplished in Iraq. A decade ago it was supposed to ensure us the ability to police Saddams weapons build up, or cause a rebellion. At this point it has resulted in a decade long genocide of Shiite and Kurdish villagers. Saddam is a Suni and hates them. He murders them himself when he gets a chance. We are directly starving to death and causing the deaths by treatable disease of over over 5000 innocent village children under the age of 5 every month. Some day this will become widespread and public knowledge that our children's children learn about in text books. They'll be asking "Grampa what did you do to help stop this?" I'm practicing my shoulder shruggs now. How about you? Now we have Kosovo. Explain to me, anybody, the goodness of this cause or why it is in the best interests of the US to wade into this.
