Dear friends,

I met a sales representative at CeBIT. We did not talk for long since I had lots of things to do. Here's the stuff. Don't expect a big scoop.

DOC Millenium 16MB is shipping. He told me this is enough for IAD but the market wants more capacity. I received samples of DOC Millenium and DOC2000. Nice chips.

I asked about the hiring difficulties in Silicon Valley. He said that thanks to Chuck 10 out of the 20 people working there were Sony Semicon employees. He's taken the best and brightest and it was not too difficult hiring them.

Apparently the company is relying heavily on him and his EXTENSIVE network in the industry. The accounts they are working on to acquire are SUPER LARGE. M-Systems alone was only a tiny company that noone in the industry could really trust. Now, thanks to Chuck's intelligence, forays have been made into this segment. They lay the foundation for exponential profits and revenue growth.

Marshall Industries, for instance, brings a lot of customers to them, thanks to him. Apparently Marshall is currently a great source of business to them.

The alliance with MSFT and Toshiba take a very important part in the above-mentioned strategy. These alliances are not done overnight. They take years. These are very important relationships.

Such relationships are based on mutual trust. A trust which goes beyond the technical. The Toshiba relationship is a very solid proof of the work which has been achieved so far. Indeed, Japanese companies hardly strike such alliances, even less when the partner is a tiny israeli company. Building these type of relationships takes an awful lot of time. Therefore the acquisition of the major accounts we are all eagerly waiting for is in the process but ...takes a LONG time.

The current problem is the limited capacity of DOCMillenium. They expect to reach 32MB before the end of the year.

For those who are preoccupied with the competence of the company as far as marketing is concerned: the very nice person I talked to had a BA in marketing and an MBA from the US top 5 B-Schools.

As far as the booth is concerned, I can tell you it was well placed (a block from SanDisk's. The size was reasonable. The look was very good, colorful, very professional. Same style as SanDisk. Seems they have made big progress.

The negative part of my report is that I can't really say the booth was swamped by people. Actually there were two visitors (including me). But of course this was Sunday and they had much more visits during the week.

A SCOOP (I know I wrote there were not) : the Clarion Auto PC could become a more interesting portion of their revenues...Clarion is currently negociating with GM and Ford (and Chrysler?) to include the Auto PC as standard in some vehicles.

I hope I contributed something interesting,

Best Regards,

Jerome
