Dell falls on shipment concerns

Dell Computer's shares fell as much as 8.1 percent on concern that the No. 1 direct seller of personal computers may be shipping fewer machines than expected this quarter.

Dell fell 2 5/8 to 37 5/8 in midafternoon trading of 43.1 million, making it the most active in U.S. markets. Earlier, the shares touched 37. Donaldson Lufkin & Jenrette Securities Corp. analyst Kevin McCarthy cut his profit forecast for the fiscal first quarter ending April 30 to 15 cents a share from 17 cents.
