There is no longer such a thing as 'Application Foundation Classes".
Microsoft will be delivering the beta version of JFC by the end of
March (so we have been told). It is supposed to be 100% Pure Java.
It may even be shipped with the IE 4.0 beta realese due by early
March (again as we have been told by Microsoft). From the prototype
I have seen JFC is 100% pure Java (so the claim is) and is a areally
neat extremly useable product for the development of Java
applications.

COM stands for Component Object Model. The name COM is
used by Microsoft (but I am not sure - let me put it this way, I dont
think it is a trade mark. If it is then Microsoft has been very clever in
patenting the name! It is as if McDonalds trade marks the name
'water' as its own proprietary product!)). You seem to
know about Java therefore I dont think it is necessasry for me to
define what Component Object Model is! But to refresh your memory
COM is a model used (and introduced by Microsoft) through
its OLE/ActiveX technology for the development of independent
software components that can be integrated with any other software
components and applications through exposure of interfaces, properties and methods written in any language. Now if you fully
understand Java Beans you will find out that Java Beans is Sun's
version of COM with the addition of it being 100% platform
independent and with the exception of it not having the capability of
being written in any other language but Java. However bridges can
be made to connect to Microsoft's COM or Apple's COM or anybody
else's COM. Hope this helps and If not please refer to
www.javasoft.com, and www.microsoft.com.
