You don't include a link to the full story and I haven't found it on a news site, but the report you're quoting here seems to be about advertisers (ad buyers) and not a count of banners shown on each site. The graph you quote says that Microsoft is the biggest advertiser (buyer of banner ads) on the web. Many of those banners would show up on non-Microsoft sites, including some owned by AOL.

But overall, I agree. Microsoft is undervalued as a net play.
