That sounds a lot more sensible than the ideas I've come up with. Good thinking. If MSFT is going to settle, it will have to be in some way that at least gives the appearance of increasing competition. This litigation is as much about politics as business, and in politics appearance is everything. Intel has pointed the way, and I think MSFT will probably settle. Judges aren't good at running businesses, and I suspect that MSFT will try to avoid this, and try to recapture some public good will. I believe that the whole thin client business is peripheral to Microsoft's main interests. MSFT is going to have to abandon it's "own the world" attitude, at least temporarily. A really successful CTXS would be beneficial to MSFT because it would increase the demand for servers using MSFT products. As you suggest, a big expansion of CTXS present business would require money for extra employees, and maybe they are planning a big sales and advertising push.
