To put a pro MSFT spin on that column I would say that it shows that
1. Gates is downwardly loyal
2. He was correct in that although the government caught MSFT in a technical gaff Boise did not demonstrate any substantive wrongdoing.
3. He used the tactic of downplaying the internet and Java as a coverup to buy time for MSFT who entered the fray late in the game.

Myself I felt they were very poorly prepared for courtroom appearances and the rigors of cross examination.
