Mootman,

Quite honestly, I feel there is a lot of competition in both the Broadband ATM and Remote Access markets. Cascade was a threat to StrataCom when STRM was alone, but things have changed dramatically now that STRM is merged with CSCO. Cisco provides an incredible sales force which has shown it has the potential to catapult STRM's products to new sales highs. Chambers is quoted in this week's Communications Week as saying "StrataCom had more new customers in Q1 than it had in all of 1995".

Cascade did well at coming into a market (Frame Relay) which was synonymous with STRM (who designed the world's first frame relay product, the FRP) by designing and selling a quick, cheap, low-feature "frame-relay" switch. I don't know that CSCC can penetrate as well in the broadband and access markets.

Regards.
