Thanks for posting that JBL... I do take a few issues with George Will's piece (but you knew that...), anyway this was apparently a "lifetime achievement" award which carries a stronger connotation than just a body of work. Kazan's work has been awarded consistently over the years, most recently he had a few pictures in the "100 best" pictures achievement - I don't know how many directors had multiple films in the list, certainly not many, but Kazan had "On the Waterfront" and "Streetcar" (and maybe others). It all comes down to personal ethics I suppose, when someone behaves the way he did.

Anyway my point was that you could see from the audience that only about 25-30% of the people stood and clapped. A lot of people just sat there and to me Kazan seemed uncomfortable too. I think they should have just let this one go, jmo.
